For four generations, the Sardi family has been serving delicious and authentic Italian dishes.
In fact, the first generation of Sardi family restaurants started in Italy. From there, they brought their tasty recipes to New York City.
And now Marietta and the surrounding towns—from Columbia to Maytown, Bainbridge to Mount Joy—(anywhere in what Marco Sardi calls “the greater Donegal area”) get to experience authentic Italian cuisine in the their own backyards.
Marco’s Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria is a family-owned and operated restuarant that’s been in business for over 41 years. Marco and his family have been operating the business together in its current location for the past 22 years, along with many loyal and dedicated employees.
“We make delicious, hand-prepared authentic Italian meals,” Marco says, “including some of the best bread in Lancaster County.”
That bread is the basis for a huge selection of food including pizza crust, strombolis, and calzones. The bread and the sauces that the Sardis use are made fresh daily. Pizza selections include both the thin crust and deep dish varieties.
“And our plum tomato sauce is to die for,” Marco adds. The tomato sauce finds its way into the spaghetti and lasagna dishes, while the restaurant offers a selection of other fresh dishes as well. All the veal, chicken and beef entrees are made with high-quality cuts, and the hand-made black angus hamburger patties are always a popular choice.
Affordability and fresh, quality ingredients are two key priorities for Marco. That translates into all kinds of delicious offerings on site.
“We offer four to seven soups a day,” Marco explains, “and they are all made fresh daily on the premises.”
In addition to their soups, Marco’s offers sandwiches including paninis and subs, along with wonderful classic Italian desserts—and they include some PA Dutch treats like whoopie pies for good measure.
If you need a six pack, Marco’s has an enormous selection of 6 packs, including a wide variety of domestic beers and microbrews.
Friday nights are a special night at the restaurant, as it’s often seafood night. Marco and his staff cook up Seafood Livornese Fra Diavolo , a seafood and plum tomato dish over pasta with delicious bouillabaisse that has people begging for more. Along with Italian music, Fridays are a great time to relax.
Marco’s is fun every day, as there are numerous people who have made the restaurant their home away from home and will often stop in to eat and chat. They know each other and Marco by name and enjoy getting together for food and drink, either in the restaurant, the lounge or out on the patio in nice weather.
“There is definitely a family atmosphere,” says Marco. Our customers and our staff are the most important part of our “Marco’s family”, he boasts. “Without the help of Ron Reighard, our prized “Pizzaiolo” (Italian for Pizza Chef), Esther Gantz, our “Queen of Catering” and Troy Dyer, our “Saute’ Cook”, this wouldn’t be the Marco’s that people know and love! And the rest of our team…our Cooks (Patrick, Chad and Dan), Servers (Kayla and Kristy) and Delivery Crew (Lindsey, Barry and Jimmy) play critical roles in making sure every Marco’s customer is satisfied with their meal and the service they receive!”
Since the restaurant has been in the community for decades, it has definitely become a part of the fabric of life in Marietta. They have a long-standing tradition of offering affordable off-site catering and have served numerous weddings and other events over the years.
They also contribute to the community in other ways. One happy customer left this testimonial on the restaurant website: “Marco was so generous when one of our local businesses were ‘locked out’ of their jobs for six months, Marco reached out to his ‘locals’ and delivered food and water as well as his awesome, unbelievably tasty fresh-baked pizza without hesitation.”
Marco’s also provides delivery service to the local community—a great option when life gets hectic. Just place an order and tasty Italian food will be delivered straight to your door.
“Marco and his entire staff do a wonderful job,” wrote another customer on the website. “We live in Bainbridge, and they deliver to us no questions asked!”
Marco hopes to expand the dining area at the restaurant by possibly adding a second dining room in 2013. “The community has being keeping us busy with steady patronage and it’s a full-time job,” Marco says. “Our hopes are to continue a long family tradition here in Marietta.”
